IDAHO SENATE PASSES SIGNIFICANT TAX RELIEF AND EDUCATION FUNDING

We recently returned to the Statehouse for a special session and voted overwhelmingly to pass House Bill 1 (H1) to help staunch our current state of runaway inflation. H1 will return $500 million of surplus tax revenue back into the hands of Idaho taxpayers, provide for ongoing tax relief, set a flat tax at a reduced rate of 5.8% for both individuals and corporations, and makes a significant investment in our children.

Constituents throughout the state also shared their need for significant financial relief, and we listened. Conservative leadership, thoughtful planning, and a robust economy have given Idaho a $2 billion tax revenue surplus that gave us an ability to bring immediate relief to all Idahoans.

Even though it is largely shortsighted federal policies that are creating hardships for Idahoans — from the pains of inflation, extreme gas prices, reckless federal spending, and more — this Legislature has the ability and the authority to come together and see these funds go back to directly benefit Idahoans.

Idaho Senate Republicans believe H1 embodies the conservative values of responsible spending, lowering taxes, reducing regulations, and supplying our citizens with a quality education so they are better equipped to fill the in-demand careers Idaho businesses are seeking.
