Idaho Senate Commends Boise State Women's Volleyball Team for Upholding Integrity of Women's Sports
Boise, Idaho — On Monday, February 10, 2025, the Idaho Senate passed House Concurrent Resolution 2 (HCR2), with Senator Cindy Carlson serving as the floor sponsor. This resolution honors and commends the Boise State University women's volleyball team for their courageous stand in preserving the integrity of women's sports. The team forfeited matches against San Jose State University on September 28 and November 21, 2024, due to the inclusion of a biological male on the opposing roster.
HCR2 emphasizes the importance of providing young women with opportunities to participate in sports, highlighting the benefits to their physical, emotional, and psychological health, as well as the development of self-confidence and discipline. The resolution underscores the principles of fairness, privacy, and physical safety in women's athletics. It clarifies that the measure is not about transgenderism but is focused on maintaining these core values.
The resolution also calls upon the Mountain West Conference to revise its policy allowing biological males in women's sports and urges the NCAA to revoke its transgender student-athlete participation policy, which the Legislature believes discriminates against female athletes. This action aligns with the recent NCAA announcement updating its transgender student-athlete participation policy, limiting competition in women's sports to biologically female student athletes.
Senator Carlson stated, "The Boise State women's volleyball team has demonstrated exceptional integrity and commitment to the principles of fair competition. Their actions serve as a powerful example of standing up for the values that underpin women's sports."
The Idaho Senate reaffirms its dedication to protecting female athletes under Title IX, the Idaho Fairness in Women's Sports Act, and Governor Little's Executive Order 2024-08, demonstrating the state's unwavering commitment to fairness, equality, and the integrity of women's sports.
